Ekaterinburg is packed with dramatic historical sites, panoramic vistas, endless culture and calming retreats. Here in Russia’s fourth largest city, you’ll discover a city rich with national heritage and character to boot.
Out of all Ekaterinburg’s stunning architectural wonders, the most impressive might just be the Church upon the Blood – a fully operational chapel, museum and memorial to the Romanov’s, the last Imperial Family of Russia. An incredible example of Byzantine-style architecture, the church is embellished with gold domes topped with crosses. Be sure to check it out at sunset for some dramatic photos.
There are plenty of things to see and do in Ekaterinburg. For panoramic views across the city, head to Vysotsky Viewing Platform. Ride the lift 52 floors up and take in one of Russia’s best urban skylines. In the evening, visit the Ekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre for some classic culture. It’s one of the oldest and cherished theatres in Russia and has been staging operas and ballets since the 1800s.
Ekaterinburg is home to plenty of green spaces which offer some peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle of the city. Close to the centre is Victory Park, a forest-filled oasis that also features a licensed café serving classic Russian meals. It's the perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon in the sun.
