Nerja Spain

Sun-soaked beaches hugging the rocky outcrops of Spain's Costa del Sol region are the highlights of Nerja tourism. This resort town also boasts a historical centre and easy access to picturesque coves and mountains.

A walk through the narrow cobblestone streets of Nerja's town centre will take you past the 17th-century El Salvador Church, Ermita de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias and other such historical landmarks. For panoramic views of the mountains and the sea, head to Balcón de Europa located on a cliff. A famous attraction in Andalucía, this structure is an ideal photo spot with its strategic location along a seafront promenade. A trip to the nearby Cueva de Nerja cavern is highly recommended too, for its stalactite and stalagmite formations and ancient cave paintings. In the summer months, the Rio Chillar river walk offers opportunities to hike through knee-deep waters while savouring picturesque nature vistas along the way.

Set aside some time during your Nerja holiday to visit the beautiful beaches of the town’s 13-km-long coastline. At the blue flag Burriana Beach, you’ll find all manner of water sports that can be enjoyed in scenic settings. You can also taste local delicacies like wood-fired paella at beachside restaurants here. In stark contrast to the busy Burriana beach, Carabeillo beach is quiet, surrounded by tropical greenery and accessible only via a set of steep stairs. Calahonda beach is worth checking out too, especially due to its convenient location next to the Balcón de Europa.
