Located on the island of Okinawa, Naha in Japan is a booming metropolis with a population of more than 300,000. Apart from being a seat of culture, art and history, Naha is gaining fame as a resort town. The city attracts travellers during spring and autumn when the temperature is just right for a day out at the beach, or a walk along the busy shopping street of the city.
From exploring historical landmarks to relaxing by the beach, there are a lot of things to do in Naha. You can visit Shuri Castle – the former residence of the royal family – and the UNESCO-listed Tamaudun Mausoleum to learn about the city's imperial past. For some time out in the sun and sand, you can head to Naminoue Beach. It's a favourite among visitors as well as locals for its shallow and clear waters, perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
The Okinawa City Monorail serves the city of Naha, as well as the old capital of Shuri. You can hop on a train from the airport and stop directly at the city centre. Apart from the monorail services, you can also get around the city by bus.
