Khajuraho India

Khajuraho is a small town located in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, known for its UNESCO World Heritage-listed temples. The temples are famous for their intricate carvings and sculptures, depicting a wide range of human and animal figures, as well as deities from Hindu and Jain myths.

The temples of Khajuraho were built between the 9th and 12th centuries by the Chandela dynasty, and there are a total of 85 temples in the complex, of which only 20 have survived. The temples are divided into three groups: the Western, Eastern and Southern group, each group have different style of temples and architecture.

The Western group of temples is the most popular and well-preserved, and it's home to some of the most famous temples in Khajuraho, including the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful temples in India. The temple is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures that depict scenes from Hindu mythology.

Another popular temple in the Western group is the Lakshmana Temple, which is known for its stunning architecture and detailed carvings of gods and goddesses.

The Eastern group of temples are not as well-preserved as the Western group, but they are still worth visiting. This group of temples is known for its Jain temples, the Parsvanath Temple and the Ghantai Temple, both are considered to be some of the most beautiful Jain temples in India.

The Southern group of temples is the least visited group of temples, but it's still worth a visit. The temples in this group are smaller and less elaborate than the temples in the Western and Eastern groups, but they still offer a glimpse into the rich architectural and cultural heritage of Khajuraho.

In addition to the temples, Khajuraho also offers a variety of other activities such as visiting the Khajuraho Dance Festival, an annual event that showcases India's rich dance and music tradition, and visiting the Khajuraho Museum, which displays sculptures and other artifacts found at the temples.

Overall, Khajuraho is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art, architecture, and Indian culture. The temples are a testament to the skill and creativity of the medieval Indian builders and the intricate carvings and sculptures are truly a sight to behold.
