Grenoble

Grenoble France

Nestled at the foot of the French Alps in the south-east of France, Grenoble is an ancient city that has charmed visitors for centuries with its creative atmosphere and breathtaking nature. Here in the ‘Capital of the Alps’, you can admire panoramic views as well as world-class museums and galleries.

There are plenty of exciting things to see and do in Grenoble. The Bastille, a centuries-old fortress high up in the Chartreuse Mountains, is an absolute must-see. Be sure to ride the Grenoble-Bastille cable car from the city centre to the medieval fortress, and take in the sweeping views along the way. Paul Mistral Park is another highlight – laid out like a vast landscape garden, it features old trees, water basins and plenty of space to relax and exercise. The 1925 Perret Tower stands in the middle of the park and, when illuminated with twinkling lights at night, makes for a truly captivating view.

Grenoble is home to some of the best museums in France. There’s the Museum of Grenoble, famed for its inimitable art collection featuring work by Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Kandinsky and Warhol. Elsewhere, history buffs can explore the Romanesque Saint-Laurent Church at the Grenoble Archaeological Museum. Located below the Bastille and atop a 6th-century crypt, it offers a stunning insight into Christianity’s history.
