Christchurch New Zealand

Christchurch’s location in the Canterbury region of New Zealand’s South Island makes it an ideal basecamp for adventures into the surrounding countryside teeming with glacial lakes and snow-capped mountains.

Natural beauty abounds in Christchurch and there are many spots in the city where you can admire it. Head to Hagley Park, a centrally located urban space consisting of woodlands, walking and biking paths and a range of recreational areas. At Christchurch Botanic Gardens nearby, you’ll find a verdant oasis that is renowned for its magnificent plant collection. The garden’s conservatories overflow with summer roses, spring daffodils and autumnal foliage.

There’s a plethora of things to do in Christchurch. You can embark on a punting tour of the Avon River, passing the scenic Christchurch Botanic Gardens, or check out the thought-provoking public art displays installed at strategic locations in the city. As you stroll through the neighbourhoods of Christchurch, you’ll also find that the city has a vibrant street art scene. Murals and graffiti in varied themes can be found at Lichfield Street and Tuam Street, among others.

Add a dash of history and culture to your Christchurch holiday by visiting its myriad museums and art galleries. Christchurch Art Gallery is famous for its collection of contemporary and historical art displayed in a modern building whereas the restored Christchurch Arts Centre, or simply The Arts Centre, houses museums and galleries in heritage structures. The Canterbury Museum, with its archaeological exhibits and Antarctic expedition memorabilia, is worth checking out too.
