Chengdu China

With a history dating back to the 4th century, Chengdu is the capital of southwestern China's Sichuan province. Today, this city is one of the greatest economic, financial, commercial and cultural centres in Western China. Chengdu is best known for its delectable dishes and has been recognised as a city of gastronomy by UNESCO in 2011.

The history of Chengdu is intricately tied to the Wenshu Monastery. Constructed in 1691, the temple complex is home to numerous cultural relics like paintings and calligraphy. Take some time out to visit the Du Fu Thatched Cottage complex during your visit. Featuring green gardens, arching bridges and pristine lakes, this place looks straight out of a postcard. The history of the land is stored in its many museums. Sichuan Museum is one of the largest museums in Chengdu that showcases ancient pottery items, ceramics, sculptures and coins.

If you enjoy spicy dishes that leave a tingling sensation on your lips, then Chengdu is the right destination for you. Generously cooked with sichuan peppers with a balance of sweet and salty flavours, the food here is diverse and perfectly captures the fiery spirit of the city. Grab a bowl of pork sichuan dumplings or Sichuan noodles in Chili sauce at the Jin Li walking street. Try something different at XiHe by ordering fried rabbit with peppers. Flavoured with Sichuan pepper, garlic, ginger and peppers, this dish is a top-notch choice.
