Beppu

Beppu Japan

Beppu is a city located in the Oita prefecture of Japan, known for its hot springs and geothermal activity. The city is home to over 2,000 hot springs, making it one of the most popular hot spring resorts in the country. Visitors can enjoy traditional Japanese onsen (hot springs) experiences, as well as modern spa facilities.

One of the most popular attractions in Beppu is the "hells" of Beppu, a group of eight hot spring areas that are known for their unique and striking appearance. These include the Chinoike Jigoku, or "Blood Pond Hell," which is a boiling mud pool with a reddish-brown color, and the Tatsumaki Jigoku, or "Waterfall Hell," which features a hot spring waterfall.

Umitamago Aquarium is a popular attraction in Beppu that features a variety of marine life, including dolphins, sea turtles, and penguins. The aquarium also has interactive exhibits and touch pools for visitors to get up close and personal with the animals.

In addition to hot springs, Beppu also offers a variety of other tourist attractions. The Beppu Tower Observation Deck provides panoramic views of the city, while the Beppu Rakutenchi Amusement Park offers a variety of rides and attractions. The city also has a number of temples and shrines, including the Jigokumushikobo Kannawa, a temple dedicated to the god of hot springs.

Beppu is also known for its delicious local cuisine, which includes dishes such as Beppu ramen (a type of noodle soup) and Jigokumushi (steamed seafood and vegetables cooked with hot spring steam).

Visitors can easily reach Beppu by train from major cities such as Fukuoka and Oita. The city is also a convenient starting point for exploring other nearby tourist destinations, including the nearby island of Kyushu. With its natural hot springs and beautiful scenery, Beppu is a must-see destination for anyone interested in Japanese culture and history.
